Is LiveChat legit? Who sells it, what the Terms say and how safe it is

Last reviewed 7 October 2026

Quick answerYes: LiveChat is sold by Text, Inc. under published Terms, and the 14-day trial asks for no card. Fees are not refunded for unused time; pick tawk.to to start chat without paying.

Is LiveChat legit: who sells it and under what terms

Yes: LiveChat (sold to new buyers as Text plans) is sold by Text, Inc., with its principal office in Boston, Massachusetts, under Terms of Use last updated July 3, 2026. LiveChat's pricing page says new trials now start on Text plans, "the next product from the team behind LiveChat", and those Terms are the agreement for the plans.

As read on 7 October 2026, Essential is $25 per user a month in US dollars, billed monthly, or $19 billed annually. The Terms say Massachusetts law governs them.

Billing, renewals and refunds

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle. All fees are upfront and non-refundable, with no credits, refunds or pro-rated adjustments for unused time, and LiveChat publishes no money-back guarantee. Text, Inc. gives at least 30 days' notice of changes that affect your payment, and the Terms let it change other terms without prior notice.

LiveChat's Terms say there are no refunds for unused time, while one Marketplace app listing offers its own 14-day money-back guarantee, so we promise no refund and no guarantee. Monthly plans can be canceled anytime; annual plans run the 12 months you paid for and can be adjusted or canceled at renewal.

Is LiveChat safe? Security, privacy and accessibility claims

LiveChat says its security is SOC 2 Type 2 audited and that it complies with GDPR and CCPA, and its home page lists PCI DSS SAQ A. Its pricing table marks HIPAA compliance as "Coming soon" on Enterprise.

LiveChat's help center publishes guidance on getting the website widget ready for US wiretap laws, which notes that several states require every party's consent to a recorded confidential conversation. That is the vendor's guidance, not legal advice on privacy, consent or chat records.

LiveChat's pricing table says its chat widget is WCAG 2.1 AA compliant while its home page says WCAG 2.2 AA, so we attribute the claim to LiveChat, name no version and still test the widget on your own page.

What LiveChat's own numbers do and do not show

LiveChat's own pages give two different customer counts, so this page prints neither. The home page advertises a sales increase from AI live chat; that is a marketing claim, not a result this page can show. LiveChat's own resolution figures vary, so no AI percentage appears here.

How to check LiveChat before you pay

A 14-day trial with no card lets you check the product and the sign-up before any money changes hands. The trial runs on Essential or Growth, the plan you pick, and LiveChat has no free plan beyond it. LiveChat's AI Agent test drive on text.com needs no login or credit card and builds a test agent from your public pages.

Start on monthly billing if you want the exit open: an annual plan is paid for 12 months upfront.

To start chat without paying, pick tawk.to: its page calls the core chat free forever, and its paid add-ons start at $29 a month. The LiveChat free trial guide sets out what to test; what is LiveChat and the LiveChat review cover plans and limits.
